Romeo, first is it a 1955 1st series or a 1955 2nd series? First buy a shop manual for the appropriate model year, they go for about $30. One good all around restoration book is "How to restore your Chevrolet pickup" by Tom Brownell. It covers the years 1928-91, talks about common repairs needed plus helpful hints on a step by step basis. Its published by Motorbooks International that has lots of other books on restoration. You can order a free catalog by calling 1-800-826-6600. One more book to get would be a 1947-55 Factory Assembly Manual if you have a 1955 1st series or a 1956-59 Factory Assembly Manual if you have a 1955 2nd series truck. This is a manual that shows nothing but up close exploded views of everything attached to the frame. It also shows every nut, bolt, washer, clip, screw, etc used. Very useful and only about $30. One last thing to get is a RESTORATION PACKET from Chevrolet. Just call 1-800-222-1020 with your vin and year. Its free and has 50+ pages of info on that specific year. Excellent for stock restorations.
